Third of Americans Claim They’ve Seen a Ghost
A recent Economist/YouGov poll reveals that belief in ghosts is more common among Americans than belief in aliens visiting Earth. Nearly half of U.S. adults say they believe in ghosts, while about one-third claim they might have seen one.
In contrast, fewer Americans think extraterrestrials have landed on our planet, and even fewer believe in the power of curses. However, when it comes to personal encounters, only 15% of respondents report having actually seen a ghost.
These findings highlight a stronger cultural inclination toward the supernatural than extraterrestrial phenomena, with many Americans open to the possibility of ghostly presences.
